Obituary for Donald Howard Miller

Donald H. Miller, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at Bethel Home. He was born on November 17, 1923, to John and Nola (Lenz) Miller in Oshkosh.
Shortly after graduating from Oshkosh High School in January of 1942, Don left to serve his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He received rank as Corporal and served in a tank squadron in the South Pacific. He saw action on Samoa and the Marshall Islands of Enewetok and Kwajalein Atoll. While he was serving on Enewetok, Don was wounded and later awarded the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged in 1946. After returning home, he went to college for several years on the G.I. Bill.
On June 10, 1948, Donald married June S. Jungwirth in Oshkosh. He worked for his father-in-law John Jungwirth as a floor sander for several years. He then became a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service where he proudly worked until his retirement.
Don loved golfing, enjoyed fishing, playing cribbage, was an avid reader, loved the challenge of crossword puzzles, and was a faithful Badger and Packer fan.
He is survived by his beloved wife, June; two sons, John (Mary Ellen) Miller and Daniel Miller; granddaughter, Heidi Marie Miller; sister, Phyllis Willert; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Audrey (Donald) Fusk and Shirley Miller; brothers, James (Elaine) and Wallace Miller; and brother-in-law Frederic Willert.
A memorial service for Don will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the Bethel Home Chapel (225 North Eagle Street) with Chaplain Nancy Twichell officiating. Visitation will be held starting at 1:00. Burial will be at a later date at Lake View Memorial Park.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nursing staff and therapists at Bethel Home and to Dr. Kirtida Ringwala for all the love and care they gave to Donald.
