Paul A. Luedtke

March 7, 1948 — November 1, 2017

Paul A. Luedtke was born March 7, 1948 in Oshkosh, WI. He was the youngest child and son of Alfred and Amanda Luedtke. Paul died November 1, 2017 in Whitehall, WI at the age of 69.

Paul was a Vietnam veteran who served his country from August 22, 1966 to August 23, 1969. He was a member of the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division and served in B-Company 2nd 327th Parachute Infantry Regiment. He also was the radio telephone operator (RTO) and did such a phenomenal job he was asked to be the Company Commander’s RTO. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Paul was affected with PTSD after returning from Vietnam.

His life was very tumultuous in his remaining years. One of the shining lights in Paul’s life was the birth of his son Andy (Andrew Paul Luedtke) on April 6, 1973. Unfortunately, Andy died of a malignant brain tumor at the tender age of 10.

Paul loved to freestyle paint and many who knew him have some of these paintings. He also enjoyed carpentry work and building things and he loved his dogs too.

Out of 7 siblings Paul is survived by 3; sisters Joan Sagmeister of Oshkosh and Grace Hunt of Oregon and brother Eugene Luedtke of Pine River, WI. Also surviving are 2 sisters-in-law, Nora Luedtke of Florida and Arlene Luedtke of Pine River, WI and cousins, numerous nieces/nephews as well as great nieces/nephews.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Jacqueline, son Andy, 2 sisters Betty and Arleen, and brother Sonny.

The staff at Trempealeau County Health Care Center (TCHCC) in Whitehall, WI was Paul’s family for the last 2-3 years. Prior to this he was a resident at Fond du Lac County Health Care Center for many years. The staff at TCHCC recalled many fond memories and fun stories and especially loved his “free spirit” and spunk.

Paul will be missed by all who cared for him and did so with great compassion, professionalism and insight. Paul, may you rest in peace and bless your soul. May you experience the freedom, independence and free choice that eluded you here on earth.

A memorial service with military honors will be held for Paul on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 11am at Lake View Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum (Oshkosh, Wisconsin) in the chapel, with burial of cremains to follow.
