William Mcaloon

April 1, 2017 — May 15, 2017

William McAloon passed away on Monday, May 15th at the Bethel Home with his Father at his side. “Billy” was born April 1, 1957 in Neenah, Wisconsin the son of William and Mary McAloon. He graduated from Oshkosh North High School in 1975 and later earned a degree from Fox Valley Technical Institute. Bill was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Oshkosh.
Bill served in the National Guard from 1978 to 1982 then embarked on a 30 plus year career in the field he truly loved---bartending. He worked at the Brass Rail for 6 years then his family purchased the Oshkosh tavern in 1984 and Bill ran the business from that time until the tavern was closed in late 2016 due to his health.
Bill truly loved everything about the tavern business, especially meeting new customers who became lifelong friends. Bill sponsored and participated in Brass Rail bowling and dart teams in various leagues through the years. Cribbage was Bill’s true love where he played with his wife Mary, and won many, many tournaments and league titles playing with his mother. Bill started a Monday night Brass Rail Cribbage league more than 30 years ago where he teamed with his mother and wife to win numerous titles.
Bill was a proud member of the Oshkosh Tavern League and served on its Board of Directors. Trips to Madison and Washington DC to represent the Tavern League were highlights of Bill’s life---a very special thanks to Pat Purtell for his friendship, guidance and support!
Highlights of Bill’s early years were family trips out West, he loved Fisherman’s Bridge in Yellowstone National Park. Summers were spent at the family cottage on Crescent Lake in Rhinelander where he loved playing cards with his grandmas and great grandmas and fondly remembers the meals Nana cooked on the outdoor fireplace---especially the blackberry pies.
Bill enjoyed many, many trips and excursions highlighted by a June 1999 trip to Las Vegas where he married his wife Mary (Becker). Additional trips with his mother and wife included Opryland, Branson, casinos, concerts, Brewer and Packer games where he and his mother shared season tickets in row 3 of the North end-zone and touched numerous players through the years as they did the “Lambeau Leap”.
Bill loved playing cards, bingo, shuffle board and bowling.
Bill his survived by his parents, William and Mary McAloon, Oshkosh. His wife Mary (Becker) and her two sons Justin and Matthew Becker, (Angela) all of Oshkosh.
