Alice Elaine Meitzen

Alice Elaine Meitzen passed away peacefully in her home on January 19, 2019 with her family at her side. She was born on July 29, 1931 to Harold and Linda (Radig) Schmiedel. Alice attended grade school at the Town of Algoma Grange School; which was a one-room school house at the time. She attended Peace Lutheran Day School before attending Oshkosh High School. Alice married Earl G. Meitzen on May 20, 1950 at First English Church in Oshkosh, WI.
She enjoyed sewing, especially making clothes for her grandchildren when they were small; gardening (planting over 100 geraniums each spring) and bus trips to Branson MO. She looked forward to spending time in Eagle River, especially the annual trip for Cranberry Fest where she and Earl would browse the flea market downtown. They also enjoyed attending dance recitals, plays, and soccer games for their grandchildren. Alice took her first plane trip to Denver, CO to help her granddaughter Kara pick out her wedding dress.
Alice worked at the Deltox Rug Company where she was a twister; Miles Kimball (seasonal) and Winnebago Mental Health Institute until her retirement in 1994.
She is survived by her children Mark (Kay) Meitzen, Madison WI; Laurie Meitzen, Oshkosh WI; grandchildren Kara (Berkin) Ulgen, Denver CO, Abigail Meitzen, Denver CO, Maggie (Brian) McClurg, Wauwatosa WI; and Charles Meitzen, Madison WI; brother Gerald (Gary) Schmiedel; sister-in-law Shirley Schmiedel; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband Earl, infant daughter Cynthia, her parents Harold and Linda Schmiedel, Brothers Ronald, Harold Jr (Jim), Kenneth, Gene and Karl, sister Pat King and 2 sisters that died at birth, Mary Jane and Carol.
A funeral service for Alice will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home, 100 Lake Pointe Dr. with Rev. Brad Dokken officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 AM until the time of the service. Burial will take place at Lake View Memorial Park in Oshkosh at 1 PM.
A special Thank you to her niece Kathy Paulick who got her out of bed and made her breakfast each weekday; Diane, Nancy, and Julie from Seniors Helping Seniors who kept her company and made sure she had lunch each weekday; Dr. Julie Sheehan; and the Hospice team from Aurora, especially KaBao. All of you made it possible for mom to be in her own home until the end.
