Alice N. Block

Alice N. Block passed away quietly at the age of 94 on Oct. 3, 2014 at Bethel Home. Alice was a lifelong resident of Oshkosh. She was born in Oshkosh at Mercy Hospital on August 13, 1920. She was the fifth of eight children born to Oliver and Lina Kinsler. Alice attended Merrill School, Merrill Junior High and Oshkosh High School.Alice married Howard Conrad Block on Thanksgiving Day November 24th, 1938 at her parents house at 1407 Grand Street in Oshkosh. Alice was a stay at home mother raising their five children. When her oldest started attending college, she then took a job at Woolworths located in downtown Oshkosh. Alice later joined Howard Block working at Winnebago State Hospital. Alice and Howard retired together from Winnebago State Hospital in August of 1980.Alice and Howard traveled throughout the United States, including a six week trip and tour of Alaska shortly after retiring. Alice and Howard were married one day short of 64 years. Alice was a gifted maker of quilts producing a quilt for each of her children and each of her grandchildren.Alice was preceded in death by all of her brothers and sisters. She was also preceded in death by one of her daughters, Jane Alice Block in 1967 and by her husband, Howard Block in 2002. Alice is survived by her children: Sherry (Joe) McCutcheon of Huntley, IL, Ruth (David) Resop, Princeton, WI, Robert (Dawn) Block, Oregon, WI and Richard (Kathleen) Block, Clintonville, WI. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.Funeral service will be held at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Homes-Westside, 100 Lake Pointe Dr., on Thursday Oct. 9, 2014 beginning at 11:30 am with Pastor Colin Hughes officiating. Friends and family may visit at the funeral home from 10:30 am until time of service. Interment will follow at Lake View Memorial Park. Alice will be greatly missed by the family and all those who knew her.
