Ben always had a way of making each person feel special; offering to help someone else out. A quote by Samuel Johnson sums this up, “The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good” or by author Unknown, “The true character of a man is not defined by what he does in front of a crowd but instead by what he does when no one else is around.”

He was involved in the formation of the YMCA youth basketball program and served as President of the board of SAS, now known as Reach Counseling services. Ben was very active in RCDD, served on the board of the RDA, and was VP of State Seniors.

He was an avid golf enthusiast and long-time member at Oshkosh Country Club, with two hole-in-ones, one of which was on a par 4.
