Benedict A. Schneider, Sr.

March 26, 1944 — October 11, 2018

Benedict A. Schneider, SR. passed away at his home on Thursday, October 11, 2018 surrounded by his loving family in Oshkosh, WI, after a 10 month battle with cancer. He was 74. Ben was born on March 26, 1944 in Dubuque, IA to Raymond and Mildred (Ressler) Schneider. He married the love of his life, Nancy (Mazurczak) on September 25, 1965, and they recently celebrated 53 years of marriage.

Ben enjoyed a successful financial services career that spanned over 4 decades. He thoroughly enjoyed his career and the countless great relationships and friends that developed because of. He is remembered for his selfless nature, his sense of humor, his love for his family, his complete commitment and deep love for his wife, Nancy. Ben always had a way of making each person feel special; offering to help someone else out. A quote by Samuel Johnson sums this up, “The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good” or by author Unknown, “The true character of a man is not defined by what he does in front of a crowd but instead by what he does when no one else is around.”

Ben believed in civic engagement and demonstrated this by coaching youth sports. He was involved in the formation of the YMCA youth basketball program and served as President of the board of SAS, now known as Reach Counseling services. Ben was very active in RCDD, served on the board of the RDA, and was VP of State Seniors.

He was an avid golf enthusiast and long-time member at Oshkosh Country Club, with two hole-in-ones, one of which was on a par 4.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy and four sons: Brian (Deonna) of Menasha, and their children: Brennan and Christian; Bradley (Tami) of Appleton, and their children: Marley, Mackenzie and Addison; Ben II (Amy) of Oshkosh, and their children: Brady, Meghan and Bryce; Andrew (Heidi) of Cottage Grove, MN, and their children: Zane, Knox and Truman; siblings: Gloria, James I (Sharon), Raymond II (Joanie), Paul (Marlene), Joyce (John Protz), Joseph I, Daniel (Lisa) and sister-in-law, Pat (John Schneider). Along with his wife, sons and daughters-in-law Ben celebrated his 11 grandchildren with their many academic, athletic and outdoor activities.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, John Schneider, and niece, Melissa Protz.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 19, 2018 at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside, 100 Lake Pointe Drive, Oshkosh, with praying of the rosary to conclude the evening. Visitation will resume on Saturday, October 20, at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Parish, St. Vincent site, 216 W South Park Avenue from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will take place following the visitation. Fr. Louis Golamari will officiate with Msgr. Wayne Ressler concelebrating.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the many calls and visitors, especially the hospice staff Tina and Jessica. Jessica’s presence was so helpful to Dad and family. Special thanks to Deacon Pat for his visits and spiritual leadership.
