Boyd Nelson Possin

Boyd N. Possin, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, age 62, died unexpectedly at his home on January 4, 2010, of congestive heart failure.He was born May 18, 1947, the son of Chester B. and Marian W. (Halle) Possin. He married Joan Larson, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, on February 17, 2006. Boyd was raised in Waupun, Wisconsin where he graduated from Waupun Senior High School, Class of 1965. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he earned a Bachelors degree in Physical Science, graduating with honors. He went on to earn Masters Degrees in both Water Resources Management and Geology from UW-Madison. Boyd was a tuba player in the UW Marching Band. He had a long and successful career as a Registered Professional Geologist and Hydrogeologist. Early in his career, Boyd worked as a hydrogeologist for several environmental consulting firms in Harrisburg, PA, Buffalo, NY, Chicago, IL and Green Bay, WI. He was also a senior consulting hydrogeologist to the US EPA, assisting in developing operational standards for the Federal Superfund program. In 1990, Boyd founded the firm of Environmental Compliance Consultants, Inc. (ECCI) where he worked until his retirement. Boyd also served on several Wisconsin administrative code advisory committees regarding groundwater and environmental cleanup regulations. He was a past president of the Wisconsin Groundwater Association and also the Alliance for Environmental Regulatory Communications, Inc. He was a member of the Association of Groundwater Scientists and Engineers and the Federation of Environmental Technologists. Also, Boyd was an avid gatherer of wild asparagus, his cooking skills were enjoyed by all, and he took great pride in earning his private pilots license.He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan, of Oshkosh; his step-daughters, Amy LaFond of Portsmouth NH, Kristin Larson, Chicago, Wendy (Darin) Osmundson, Phoenix; his parents; his brother, Dana, Oshkosh, his sister, Mary (John Disch), Madison; his nephew and niece, Henry and Annie Disch, Madison, along with his aunts, uncles and cousins.Private family services were held.
