Carol J. Egger

December 25, 1947 — March 31, 2021

Our Christmas Angel, Carol Jean Egger, age 73, left her earthly home for heaven on March 31, 2021 surrounded by those who loved her.

Carol was born in Oshkosh on Christmas Day 1947 to Raymond and Betty (Dickie) Collins. For most of her growing up years she lived in Fisk and attended Utica Center School graduating from Omro High School with the Class of 1966. On May 10, 1985, Carol married her sweetie, Richard Egger.

Carol was dubbed Gookie by younger siblings who could not pronounce her nickname, Nookie. Through the years, she was Grandma Carol, Aunt Carol, or Aunt Gookie to the over 20 children she cared for from infancy until they started school.

She was quick witted, funny and wise in so many ways. She had a soft spot for animals and babies and lovingly crocheted many a blanket celebrating a birth for family members and friends. She also donated many of those blankets to local hospitals for newborns.

Carol loved playing games but was especially fond of card games. Sheepshead, cribbage and poker were her favorites. Most Saturday nights would find family or friends at the Eggers’ playing various card games.

Carol was also an avid reader and letter writer. All of her letters were handwritten and went by snail mail. She forgot no one’s birthday or any special occasion. She corresponded with two prison inmates in another state upon learning that they never received any mail and even sent one of them a Bible.

March 2017 drastically changed Carol’s life. She suffered a stroke that took away her ability to do all of the things she loved. Communicating and life became a challenge but she still remained our sassy, spunky Carol. After her stroke her health gradually diminished but her faith remained strong and her desire to see Jesus grew.

It is with heavy hearts that we, her loving family, say goodbye, for now, to our Christmas Angel. Husband, Richard; daughters, Peggy Howard and Marnee (Gary) Wolfrath and son, Douglas Larsen; grandchildren, Emily Howard and Caleb Wolfrath; siblings; Karen (Mike) Behm, Robert (Pamela) Collins and Lori (Robert) Fulmer and many nieces and nephews. Carol’s parents and her younger brother, Michael Collins, preceded her in death. Her faithful companion, Cooper, will be lost without her.

A memorial service for Carol will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at Community Baptist Church of Allenville, 6629 Hilltop Road Oshkosh, WI 54904, with Pastor Dave Eisley officiating. Visitation will take place at the church from 2:00 PM until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for memorials to go to American Diabetes Association or Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
The family would like to thank the Aurora at Home nurses, Pastor Dave Eisley and the extended church family for their prayers.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
