Charles Edward Wernberg

d. September 6, 2014

After a faith-filled life of following Christ, Chuck embraced his Lord and Savior on Saturday evening, September 6, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh. He was 72 years old. Chuck was born on May 7, 1942 in Marshfield, WI to Floyd and Deloise (Erickson) Wernberg. After graduating from Marshfield High School in 1960, Chuck completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin Madison. He then entered medical school at UW Madison and completed his residency in 1970 at Childrens Hospital of Oakland in Oakland, CA. Chuck was a member of the Academy of Pediatrics and also served as a Major in the US Army during the Vietnam Era from 1970-1972.Chuck married Barb Hall on September 9, 1967. They would have celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary this year. Their relationship and love for each other spanned 50 years. Chuck was a special father to his three children: Jeff Wernberg of Lake Orion, MI; Beckie (Tedd) Lehman of Oshkosh; and Katie Wernberg of Oshkosh. Chucks love for the Lord has been passed on to three grandchildren: Annaka, Amelia, and Joshua Lehman. It is with joy and peace that the family celebrates Chucks faithful legacy continuing to live on for many generations to come. Chuck was well-known for his caring demeanor in the medical profession. Chuck served as a pediatrician and partner at Childrens Clinic in Oshkosh for 20 years. He then served as a physician with Affinity Medical Group Urgent Care for 14 years. He also served as Chief of Staff at Mercy Medical Center from 1990-1991.In his spare time, Chuck enjoyed trout fishing, fly tying, woodworking, photography, rock and mineral collecting, jewelry-making, reading, telling jokes, and rooting for the Green Bay Packers. However, Chuck was more than just a collection of hobbies and a wonderful physician. Chuck was a very faithful Christ-follower and loved spending time in in-depth Bible Study. Chuck served on the governing board of Camp Forest Springs in Westboro, WI for 20 years. Chuck also touched many lives as an Overseer at Community Church. Chuck lived out his favorite quotation: I would rather be standing in a stream thinking about God and His creation than sitting in a church pew thinking about fishing. The family envisions Chuck trout-fishing in all of Heaven with God by his side, telling jokes, and asking many questions in order to learn as much as possible about his Heavenly Father. Chuck is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. A celebration of Chucks life will be held at 5 pm on Saturday September 13, 2014 at Community Church, 2351 Ryf Road, Oshkosh, WI with Rev. Steve Johnson and Rev. Alan Cleveland officiating. Family and Friends may call from 3pm until the time of the service at Community Church. An Honor Guard will provide full military honors following the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Chucks name at Camp Forest Springs, N8890 Forest Lane, Westboro, WI 54490. Funeral services provided by Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home.
