Charles R. Penzenstadler, age 66, of Oshkosh, WI, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 following several years of neurological health issues. He was born February 6, 1943 in Oshkosh, the son of Edgar & Rose (Suda) Penzenstadler. He married his childhood sweetheart, Patricia (Pat) Drager on November 10, 1962 at St. Vincent Catholic Church in Oshkosh. They met in second grade at St. Vincents Grade School and continued on through High School together. They enjoyed 46 wonderful years of marriage. Chuck was a very kind and gentle man, a loving husband, and a very caring father and grandfather.He was a member of St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church in Oshkosh. He attended Oshkosh High School, graduating in 1961. He also attended Fox Valley Technical College and the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. Chuck worked for the Winnebago County Sheriffs Department for 30-1/2 years from 1967 until his retirement on January 2, 1998. He held the positions of Patrol Officer, Juvenile Officer, Polygraph Operator, Detective Sergeant, Detective Lieutenant and retired as Captain of the detective division. He was also in charge of the Dive Team for 3 years. Chuck was honored as the Distinguished Law Enforcer of the year in 1980 by the Oshkosh Jaycees, an honor he was very proud of.Chuck enjoyed many activities over the years such as traveling, golf, fishing, sailing, scuba diving, camping, country western dancing, racquetball, dartball, and volunteering at church fish fries, church dances and serving coffee & donuts after Sunday mass. One of Chucks favorite hobbies was woodworking. He made many special items for his family including three beautiful oak highchairs for each of his grandkids homes. Chuck loved taking his grandchildren fishing and spending time with his loving family. He had many wonderful and very special friends and family who were always there for him, especially as his health declined. Everyone made him feel included despite his limitations and helped out whenever and wherever they could making a big difference in his quality of life.Chuck is survived by his loving wife. Pat, his three children and their spouses, Rick & Laurie Penzenstadler of Centennial, CO, Kristine & John Kubasta of Oshkosh and Kathy & Sam Ford of Mundelein, IL, seven beautiful grandchildren, Rachel & Danny Penzenstadler, Kathryn, Luke & Leah Kubasta, and Kaitlin & Ben Ford. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Mary (Drager) Laatsch, brother & sister-in-law, Gary & Karen Penzenstadler, sister-in-law & brother-in law, Judy & Bob Stueber, brother-in-law Mike Drager and brother-in-law & sister-in-law Steve & Barb Drager, all of Oshkosh, one niece, Debbie (Mitch) Ward of Meriden, CT, seven nephews, Paul (Sue) Penzenstadler, Rob (Pam) Stueber, Tim (Christy) Stueber, Andy (Jessica) Drager and Bryan Drager, all of Oshkosh, Jim (Lisa) Penzenstadler of Gahanna, OH and Bill (Rhonda) Stueber of Oviedo, FL. He is further survived by many other relatives. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, a stillborn daughter, Mary Rose, his father-in-law, Erwin A. Drager, and his step father-in-law Raymond M. Laatsch.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 6 pm on Thursday, September 17th at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, 830 Westhaven Drive in Oshkosh with Father Doug LeCaptain officiating. Family and friends may call at the church from 4 pm until the time of the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Algoma Blvd., Oshkosh the following morning (Friday September 18) at 11 am followed by a luncheon at St. Raphaels. Those attending the burial are invited to meet at the Konrad Behlman Funeral Home - Westside (100 Lake Pointe Dr) at 10:30 am to proceed to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers please send a donation to the charity of your choice. A special thank you is sent to Home Instead Senior Care for their caregivers and Affinity Hospice.A wonderful man has come and gone from this earth and his memory will live on forever in the hearts of family and friends, and especially in his wifes heart who will forever cherish the many wonderful years they spent together.
