Clifford R. Schwebke, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Aurora Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born to the late Clarence and Helena (Bastian) Schwebke on April 14, 1928 in North Fond Du Lac. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and served at the end of World War II. After discharge from the service, Cliff met the love of his life, Janice Wargula, while he was enrolled at the University of Wisconsin- Oshkosh (UWO). They were married in Oshkosh on December 29, 1951. While enrolled at UWO, Cliff earned his Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts and later earned his Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Cliff was a social worker for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections for many years where he developed their rehabilitation program. Cliff was an avid gardener; he loved sports and was the quarterback for the football team and point guard for the basketball team at UWO. He enjoyed traveling, going to plays and attending the Milwaukee Symphony.
Cliff is survived by his loving wife, Janice; children, Kurt (Gloria) Schwebke, Kim (Michael) Borgardt, Kris (Sandy) Schwebke, Kapp (Cindy) Schwebke; and Kay (Marcia Meredith) Schwebke, and Nurit (Oded) Livnah; Cliff is further survived by 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Cliff was preceded in death by his brother, Clarence “Sonny” Schwebke Jr.
A service for Clifford, with full military honors, will be held Konrad-Behlman Westside (100 Lake Pointe Dr) on Friday, April 12, 2019 at 1PM. Rev Connie Weiss will officiate the service. A visitation will be held from 11AM until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and the Oshkosh Area Humane Society.
