David Alan Thomas

David Alan Thomas, 79, of Oshkosh, passed away Sunday March 10, 2013, with his wife by his side at Bethel Home following a lengthy illness. David was born on November 5, 1933, in Rochelle, Illinois to Leo and Stella (Fewkes) Thomas. On February 1, 1963 David married Doris Hale in Belvidere, Illinois. David graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a Project Engineer and Chief Engineer at FWD/Seagrave in Clintonville from 1964-1982. He also worked as a Project Engineer and Manager at Oshkosh Truck from 1982- 1997, and finally was Director of Engineering at Pierce Manufacturing from 1997-1999. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was actively involved at Wesley United Methodist Church, Oshkosh, and formerly at the Clintonville United Methodist Church where he was lay leader, on the church council and the board of trustees, and taught Sunday school at both locations. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, camping, wood working, spending time with family, and going to the family cabin. He also coached boy's baseball in Clintonville and Oshkosh for many years. Since retiring, David was involved with volunteering for mission trips.David is survived by his wife, Doris; one daughter, Jennifer Lynn (Marlin) Wege of Oshkosh; his two sons, Matthew David (Amy) Thomas of Woodbury, MN, and Mark Alan (Mary) Thomas of Oshkosh; and one brother, Dennis Thomas of Cudahy, WI. He is also survived by six grand children; Joshua Wege, Zachary (Natasha) Wege, and Ethan Wege, Benjamin Thomas, Grace Thomas, and Lila Thomas. He was preceded in death by his sister Barbara Greve. A memorial service for Dave will be held Thursday March 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, Rev. Jakes Voker officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established in memory of Dave.Dave's family would like to thank the Bethel Home staff for the compassionate care that was given over the last 8 months.
