David W. Balke

December 13, 1938 — July 20, 2014

David W. Balke, age 75, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Bethel Home with his nieces by his side. He was born on December 13, 1938 in Oshkosh the son of the late Lester and Rose (Schmechel) Balke. He graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1956. David joined the US Air Force in 1958 and retired from the Air Force in 1983. He served at many air force bases some to include: Texas, Alaska, Wyoming, California, Florida, England, Turkey, Thailand, Okinawa, Japan; and Alabama. David was united in marriage to Yuki Komesu on December 8, 1978 in Alabama. After retiring they bought a house in Oshkosh. David was an avid golfer and bowler, with an average of over 200 lifetime. David is survived by two sisters, Doris Abel and Mary Ann DeBehnke; and 6 nieces and nephews: William Balke, Michael Balke, David Abel, Jill DeBehnke, Dianne DeBehnke, and Daniel DeBehnke. He was preceded in death by his wife, Yuki in 1996, parents, and one brother, James (Harriet) Balke.Funeral service for David will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Faith Ev. Lutheran Church, 1745 Ohio St, Oshkosh; with Pastor Don Forss officiating. Friends and family may visit at the church from 10:00 am until the time of service. Interment will take place at Lake View Memorial Park.The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Bethel Home for all they care and comfort that was given to David. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
