David W Freund

David W. Freund, age 79, passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2022, at Ascension Mercy Medical Center. He was born to the late Walter C. and Amanda M. (Bredlau) Freund in Fond Du Lac, WI on May 16, 1942. After graduating from Winneconne High School, Dave was drafted into the United States Army where he served his country in Vietnam. After being discharged from his service in 1966, he married Joan Demler on June 3, 1967, at St Vincent Catholic Church. Dave spent most of his career working for the City of Oshkosh in the Street Department. He then took a position at the Wastewater Treatment Plant before retiring in 2000. Dave enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting, camping, and fishing in Canada. He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends. Dave and Joan are both members at St Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church.
Dave is survived by his loving wife, Joan; daughters, Janice (Lewis) Welsh and Linette (Kendrick Hailey) Freund; grandchildren, Tayler, Michaela, Ethan Welsh, Kelssie Steger, Devon Sischo, and Brooklin Hailey. He is further survived by his sister-in-law, Barbara Demler.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Dennis Demler.
A service for Dave will be held at St Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church (830 S Westhaven Dr) on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 11AM. Father Kevin Ripley will be officiating. A visitation will be from 9:30AM until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Oshkosh Area Humane Society.
The family would like to thank the Ascension nurses Kim, Candi, and Hannah as well as his therapist Angie for taking such great care of David.
