David William Otto

November 7, 1930 — February 10, 2017

David William Otto, age 86, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2017, into the loving arms of his wife, Carol. He was born November 7, 1930 to George and Martha (Rodencal) Otto. He married Carol Kolodzik on June 23, 1962 in Winneconne. David is a graduate of Oshkosh High School. He served with the First Infantry Division of the Army in Europe during the Korean War. After his return, David worked at UW-Oshkosh in Maintenance Services until his retirement. He played the string bass for 50 years in the Oshkosh Symphony and also played in dance and polka bands with Dick Metko and other local groups. He was a long time member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church. Dave took great pride in his garden, especially his roses that he and Carol enjoyed so much together. They never missed a chance to share or engage in conversation about the many gardens with friends and family. He is survived by his daughter: Kay Wilcox (special friend Bob Hay); sons: Kurt and Kraig (Norma) Otto; beloved grandchildren: Mercedes and Mitchell Wilcox, Taylor and Kenzie Otto and Daniel Slater. He is also survived by his brother: Robert Otto; sister: Jana Heller; and nieces, nephews and cousins. David was preceded in death by his parents: George and Martha Otto. He was also preceded in death by his wife Carol. A funeral Service will be held for David at 6:30 PM on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at St. Andrews Lutheran Church of Oshkosh (1100 E. Murdock Ave.) with Rev. Karen Jewell officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 4:30 p.m. until the time of the services. The family would like to send out a Thank You to the Mercy Medical ICU nurses and doctors for their care and compassion during David's difficult time. They would also like to thank Pastor Karen Jewell for her comfort and support of the family.
