Don H. Kutchera

Don H. Kutchera, 95 of Fond du Lac, formerly of Oshkosh, died Thursday October 7, 2010 at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home. He was born in Milwaukee, WI on October 12, 1914 son of John D. and Mabel L. Lehrmann Kutchera. He married Rose M. Miller on May 9, 1955. She preceded him in death on November 26, 2005. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (Cum Laude) in June of 1937 and his Master of Science Engineering in January 1969.Don was a civil engineer employed by Kimberly Clark from 1944 until his retirement in 1981. He had numerous patents and worked as a consultant on Yankee Dryers and was considered one of the top experts on these in the world; working into his late 80s. He was a former member of Christ Lutheran Church serving in the following capacities: President, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Council Member, and Fiscal Agent from 1956-1987. He served in many public positions in Oshkosh including: Oshkosh School Board Member from 1971-1975; Oshkosh City Councilman from 1975-1987 with two years as Mayor; Trustee and Treasurer for Christ Lutheran Foundation from 1983-1987; and on many City Boards. He was one of those that were instrumental in the passage of anti-smoking laws put in place in Oshkosh. Don had a longtime interest in his family genealogy and did a presentation on Russian Volga history on Oshkosh Community Access Television.He is survived by his son, Robert (Sandra) Kutchera of Sun Lakes, AZ; daughters, Joan Blatz of Campbellsport, WI and Doris Kutchera of Oshkosh; step-son, Ronald (Joyce) Zick of Blacksburg, VA; six grandchildren, Timothy (Nancy) Kutchera, Julie Kutchera, Douglas Kutchera, Terrie Kutchera, John (Daryl) Blatz and Jennifer Blatz; two step-grandchildren, Rona (Jason) Bortz, and Kirsten (Dan) Gapastione; and eight great grandchildren.Dons memorial service will be Wednesday October 13, 2010 at 6:00 PM at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home- Eastside. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family would prefers memorials be given to the Oshkosh Senior Center in Dons name. The family wishes to express a very special thanks to the caring staff of Lutheran Homes of Fond du Lac.
