Donald Duane Gantner

Donald (Ozzie) D. Gantner, age 85, went to his Heavenly Home on March 27th at Evergreen Retirement Community after a lengthy battle with leukemia. He was born March 17, 1931. He was baptized on March 27, 1931 at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac, WI, and confirmed in July 1945 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Van Dyne, WI.In the summer of 1950 he met the love of his life, Margaret Laabs, at Fenns Resturant, where she was a car-hop. They started their journey together and married on September 5, 1953 at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Oshkosh, WI where they have been members ever since.Donald served in the U.S. Army from January 1954 to January 1956. He was stationed at Ft. Lee, Virginia where he was a Research and Development Specialist. Upon discharge he returned to Oshkosh to work at Farhnwald Farms and Dairy and delivered milk, house to house, for many years. He later was a groundskeeper for the John L. Vette Estate and properties. He also worked at SNC Mfg. Co. Donald served as sexton for the Oaklawn Cemetery for many years. He served on the Board of Appeals for the Town of Black Wolf. He was on the Board of Church properties and in later years was an usher at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church. Donald was a man of many talents.Donald and Margaret had 62 great years together and had five wonderful children. He is survived by his wife Margaret, daughters Deborah (Chuck Hunter) Gantner of Pickett, WI, Sharon (Chris) Schumacher of Van Dyne, WI, sons Michael (Beverly), Ralph (Kathleen), and Dale (Julie) all of Oshkosh, Wi. Donald is further survived by 8 grandchildren, Douglas (Sarah) Gantner, Daniel Gantner, Amanda Gantner, Gregory (Vanessa) Gantner, Garry (Frances) Gantner, Laura (Scott) Suprenand, Jenna Schumacher, and Brandon Schumacher; 2 step-grandchildren, Jennifer (Ashlee) Ainsworth and Amy Hoessel; 6 great-grandchildren, Anna and Jesse Schumacher, Weston Suprenand, Melina and Ariana Gantner, and Claudia Gantner.Donald is also survived by his step brothers, Lawrence Kind, Carlton (Jackie) Kind, David (Mary) Kind, sister-in-law Nancy Kind, sisters-in-law Joann Laabs and Judy Laabs and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all.Donald was preceded in death by his mother and step-father Laura and Frank Kind formerly of Van Dyne, WI, brothers Robert (Carol) Kind and Eugene Kind, sister-in-law Helen Kind, parents-in-law Franklin and Ella Laabs, brothers-in-law Donald Laabs and Harold Laabs and grandson Eric Schumacher.Donald enjoyed many hobbies including fishing, hunting, traveling, camping, bowling, playing cards and family activities.A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 1st at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, 370 Bowen St. in Oshkosh, WI at 6:00pm to be followed with Military Honors. Visitation will be held at the church starting at 4:00pm until the time of service. Pastor Ronald Meier will be officiating.The family wishes to thank Dr. Phyllis Lee, Dr. Dar, the staff of Aurora Hospital ICU and 2West in Oshkosh, WI and the staff at Evergreen Retirement Community Creekview Household 6 for all their special care and compassion to Donald and his family.
