Donald J Steinfort

November 20, 1919 — June 11, 2006

Donald J. Steinfort was born in Oshkosh on November 20, 1919 to William and Ella (Pasicka) Steinfort. On April 19, 1947 he married Dorothy Mueller at Peace Lutheran Church in Oshkosh.He was a life long member of Peace Lutheran Church, where in his youth he was active in Luther League. In later years he served on the Church Council, as an usher, and as a supervisor of the combined 4th, 5th, and 6th grade Sunday School classes and was active in the former brotherhood.Don was a member of the Local 400 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union for over 55 years. During that time he was employed by Earl Burdick Plumbing, R.J. Toner Plumbing and Heating, M.P. Kelly Plumbing & Heating, F.C. Prentice Plumbing and Azco.During WWII, Don served his country for over three and a half years as an Army Air Corp Technical Sergeant in the South Pacific. Over his lifetime, Don served his community as a member of the Boards of the Fox Valley Technical College, Mercy Medical Center, American Red Cross, United Way of Oshkosh, the Oshkosh Police and Fire Commission and Representative William A. Steigers Military Academies Appointments Committee. Dons 18 year tenure on the FVTC Board spanned the establishment of the Appleton campus. As one of the original docents at the Experimental Aircraft Association Museum, he volunteered there for 20 years. He was also a member of EAA Chapter 252. Don was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 70, VFW Post 1908 and DAV Post 14.Don is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy, his daughter Karen Steinfort of Appleton, WI, his sister Marion Stutz of New Holstein, WI, a sister-in-law, Lorrayne Steinfort of Oshkosh, nieces and nephews, and good friends Carol and Terry Young and their children Ty and Melissa. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Steinfort. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2006 at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home ? Eastside with the Rev. Ralph Hanusa officiating. Family and friends may call at the Waugoo Ave funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until the service time. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
