Dorothy E. Hable

March 30, 1925 — December 15, 2020

On Tuesday, December 15, 2020, heaven gained yet another very special angel, our dear Aunt, Dorothy Edna (Starke) Hable, of Oshkosh. She was born to the late Curt and Hazel (Larsen) Starke on March 30, 1925 in Oshkosh. She graduated with the class of January 1944 from Oshkosh High School. After marrying Ervin J. Hable on May 3, 1944 they enjoyed 65 years together until his passing in 2009. A spunky 95 year old known as “the lady in red”, she loved cats, a good vodka martini during “double bubble” at Friar Tuck’s and was still living in her own home where she wanted to be til the end! Dorothy also enjoyed making her snowball sized potato dumplings (our favorite), reading, bowling, going to dance club and spending over 30 years at her home away from home, at Little Silver Lake Campground near Wild Rose. On September 16, 1956, as a member of the Oshkosh Outboard Club, she was recognized for her heroism when she helped save a drowning man from the Fox River at Scott Park in Omro. Throughout the years she was employed by W.C. Grant, Mirror Pharmacy and at J.C. Penney’s where she spent over 26 years of her career as a bookkeeper. She is a lifelong member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. Dorothy is survived by nieces and nephews, David (Peggy) Reichard of Hortonville, Kathleen (Charles) Nigl of Oshkosh, Michael (Debra - deceased) Reichard of Oshkosh, Annette Reichard of Omro, Christine Reichard of Omro, Ellen (Bruce) Mueller of Eureka and Neil Starke, Jr of Oshkosh. She also leaves behind her loving cat Rosie, special friends Jerry Marsh, Marge Steffen and Father Bill Van DeKreeke as well as other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Though we will miss her she is free of pain and together with her husband, parents, sister Mabel (Gordon) Reichard, brother Neil (Gladys) Starke and an infant brother. We will forever love you Aunt Dot and cherish the memories we made together!
A public graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery (section 57) on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 1:00 PM. We ask anyone who wishes to attend to please keep social distancing in mind due to Covid-19. Memorials may be given in Dorothy’s name to the Oshkosh Area Humane Society.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the Ascension Hospice team for their care and support over the past few days.
