Dorothy Josephine Pope, 82, Oshkosh, WI met her Savior, Our Lord Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, October 28th, 2008 at Bethel Home. Dorothy was born on December 1, 1925, in Menominee, Michigan to George and Rose (Yonke) Albrecht. She graduated from Menominee High School. She began her musical career at an early age, playing the accordion in her band, the Polka Dots in the Menominee and Marinette area. Dorothy and her brother Jim were avid sailors, competing in several sailboat races over the years. Dorothy was a devoted mother and wife. She and her first husband had five children. She spent many years teaching organ and piano in the Green Bay and Oshkosh area. She has musically educated many children and adults over the past 50 years. She was a member of the Mello Tones with her late beloved husband, Melvin Pope, whom she married in May of 1993. Dorothy was an avid seamstress and delighted in sewing for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Dorothy is survived by her five children, Sandra (Warren) Mottl, Cedar Falls, Iowa, Mary Toby, Oshkosh, WI, Dorothy (Jeff) Bergner, Plainfield, IL, Patrick (Lynn) Sturmer, Wausaukee, WI, and Dr. Matthew Sturmer, Bruce Crossing, MI. Step children include Judith (David) Weiss, Omro, WI and Laurel (Mike) Parker, Pittsboro, NC. Grandchildren include Nicole (Mike) White, Green Bay, WI, Janine (Tim) Krajnik, Green Bay, WI, Tony (Paula) Way, Larsen, WI, Sgt. First Class Andrew (Rebecca) Way, Ft. Drum, NY, Emily Bergner, Chicago, IL, Dr. Daniel Bergner,Chicago, IL, Molly (Wes) McClain, Alexandria, VA, Mallory Sturmer, Justine Sturmer, and Paul Sturmer, Mendota Heights, MN, Staci Sturmer and Brice Sturmer, Wausaukee, WI. Step-grandchildren Major Aaron (Suzanne) Weiss, Carlsbad, CA, Dan (Krista) Weiss, Colorado Springs, CO, Rebekah (Andy) Sell, Omro, WI and great-grandchildren Alex, Jacob, Preston, Garrett, Gabriel, David, Angell, Natasia, Leanne, and great step-grandchildren Mia, Emily, Silvie, Elly, Josephine, Benton and Madaline, and Sister-in-law Betty Albrecht, Livonia, MI.We will celebrate Dorothys life on Saturday, November 1, 2008 in the chapel at Bethel Home, 225 N. Eagle St., Oshkosh, WI. Pastor Nathan Ericson from Martin Luther Church will officiate. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. with services at 11:00 a.m. Interment of ashes will be at Riverside Cemetery, Menominee, MI. Dorothys family wishes to thank all the Bethel Home staff, especially2 East, for their care during Dorothys stay.
