Douglas Hammonds

April 25, 1965 — January 24, 2023

Douglas “Doug” Reed Hammonds, Age 57, died unexpectedly in his home in Oshkosh, WI on the morning of January 24th, 2023.

Doug was born in Missouri on April 25th, 1965, to Geraldine “Geri” Hammonds and Norman “Dale” Hammonds. He and his family moved from Missouri to Coloma, WI where he attended school at Westfield High School. A star basketball player, Doug was the first ever selection to the Wisconsin All-Star Basketball team from Westfield High School. He attended Evangel University in Missouri to pursue his dreams and play collegiate basketball. On September 4th, 1993, he married his beloved wife, Yvette Hammonds in Wautoma, WI. After the wedding, they moved to Fond Du Lac, WI. In 1994 Doug began working as the Head Women’s Volleyball Coach at Marian University in Fond Du Lac. Over his 10 seasons at head coach, he became the winningest coach in program history. In 1999 he stepped into the role of Athletic Director at Marian, a position he exceedingly served until 2011. He was inducted into Marian University’s Hall of Fame in 2014. He had a passion for sports and coaching, something he wanted to continue pursuing. He was the head basketball coach for his oldest daughter, Abigail, and her travel basketball team from her 4th grade to 8th grade years.

In his free time, Doug loved to be in the outdoors. Hunting and fishing were his greatest hobbies in life, a passion he shared with his father Dale and his three daughters Abigail, Anelise, and Alaina. Additionally, he had a passion for cooking, if you knew Doug – you knew that cooking was how he showed his love for others, always excited to show off his skills and dishes to family and friends. Most recently, Doug became a master gardener, growing plants nearing as tall as him, and providing fresh produce to enhance his dishes. More than anything, he loved to spend time with his three daughters. He enjoyed taking them to every one of their sporting events, going on family vacations, cooking together, Daddy-Daughter birthday dates, spending time outdoors together, and foremost - giving them a shoulder to cry on and instilling in them the strength to become powerful and successful women.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Geri Hammonds and his brother Jeremy. He is survived by his wife Yvette Hammonds and his three daughters Abigail, Anelise and Alaina all of Oshkosh, his father Dale (Sue) Hammonds of Wautoma, his brother Brad (Melissa) Hammonds of Omro, and parents in law Jack and Mary Lou Touchet of Oshkosh. He is further survived by other aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends in Missouri.
