Dr. Judith Thorpe Oelschlager

Dr. Judith Thorpe Oelschlager, age 81, passed away at Evergreen Nursing facility on the morning of Tuesday, July 26, 2022. She was born to the late Jim and Betty (Carder) Mosier on March 19, 1941, in Redkey, IN. Judie was very close with her grandparents, the late Jack and Anna Carder, and they helped to raise her through high school. After graduating from high school, Judie went on to graduate with her bachelors and masters degrees from Ball State University. She moved to Ohio State University where she earned her Doctorate degree in Communications. Judie was very proud of her degree and the hard work she had to do to achieve it. She moved to Oshkosh in 1987 where she began her career as an Associate Professor in the Radio-TV-Film area of the Communications Department at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Judie co-authored the textbook “Media Criticism: Journeys in Interpretation.” She retired after 19 years with the university. Judie married the love of her life, Thomas Oelschlager, on May 30, 1998 in Waupaca. Judie loved to cook and was considered by many to be a gourmet cook. She was also a debate coach and loved skiing. She loved being outdoors with Tom, whether it was boating, fishing, camping or traveling. Both Tom and Judie were members at St. Andrews Lutheran Church.
Judie is survived by her son, Jason Oelschlager Sr.; grandson, Jason Oelschlager Jr.; sister, Joyce Grimes; and cousin, Katie (Anton John) Wilke.
In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Tom who passed away on December 11, 2021.
A Funeral Service for Judie will be held at St Andrew’s Lutheran Church (1100 E Murdock Ave) on Tuesday August 2, 2022 at 12PM. Rev. Karen Jewell will be officiating. A visitation will be held from 11AM until the time of service. A burial will take place at Lake View Memorial Park.
