Duane G Peppler

Duane G. Peppler, age 86, of Oshkosh passed away on Tuesday January 22, 2019 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. Duane was born on February 6, 1932 in Oshkosh, the son of George and Lydia(Meyer) Peppler. Duane married Betty F. Neitzel on September 20, 1952 and she preceded him in death on December 5, 2006. On June 20, 2009 Duane married Laurelee D. Patri and she survives him.
Duane graduated from Oshkosh High School in June of 1950. He completed numerous courses from American Institute of Banking and completed three years at UW-Madison Graduate School of Banking. He was employed in Banking and Finance for thirty six years, retiring as President of F&M, Omro-Oshkosh-Winneconne on July 9, 1991. It was through his foresight and efforts that F&M opened another banking office on Ninth and Washburn in Oshkosh. After retirement, Duane continued his banking relationship as a Director of F&M Bank Omro-Oshkosh-Winneconne, F&M Bank-New London and F&M Bancorporation-Kaukauna.
Duane was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ in excess of 48 years. Duane’s past community service and involvement was: Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President, President and State Director of the Oshkosh Jaycees; member/fund raiser for Oshkosh Community Council, United Fund, Mercy Medical Expansion Program, Oshkosh Community YMCA, Bethel Home Building Fund; Director Oshkosh Boys Club, member Oshkosh “125” Committee, Co-chairman of Miss Oshkosh Pageant; Treasurer, Ticket Chairman and member of Board of Directors of Miss Wisconsin Pageant; Member of Oshkosh Fire and Police Commission 16 years; member of Winneconne Community Men’s Club; Treasurer, President and Director of Omro Area Development Corporation.
Past Community Recognitions; Outstanding Jaycee of the Year awards, Outstanding Jaycee Chairman of the year, Distinguished Service Award, Life Membership in Oshkosh Jaycees, Nominated and selected to be included in Outstanding Young Men of America and Who’s Who in the Midwest.
Duane was a former Volunteer at Mercy Medical Center and the annual EAA fly in. His memberships include American Legion, VFW life membership, Oshkosh Elks Lodge #292 Life Membership, Travelers Protective Association.
Duane was a four year member of the U.S. Naval Reserve, and served on Active duty on the U.S.S. Petrel ASR-14 for two years during the Korean War.
Duane is survived by his wife Laurelee, his sons Michael(Alice) Peppler, Rick(Shelly) Peppler, his grandchildren Amanda(Corey) Carder, Troy(Rebecca) Peppler, Derek(Jennifer) Peppler and Erika(Glen) Nelson; his great-grandchildren Kaden and Kyler Carder, Brody, Madden, and Chesney Peppler, Kamy, Kallie, Kardyn, Kalisa, and Pilot Peppler, Rylee, Sydnee, and Kinslee Nelson, his brothers Charles(Vivian) Peppler and James Peppler; sisters-in-law Audrey Peppler, Sue Neitzel, Sharon(Neitzel) Thompson and brother-in-law Douglas(Jean) Neitzel. He is further survived by his step-children Sam(Christa) Peppler and Vicki(Mike Thomack) Case; his step-grandchildren Ben(Megan) Thomack, Hillary Peppler, Courtney Goode, Zachary Peppler, Ciera Peppler and his step-great-grandchildren Benjamin Fisher and Hudson Thomack, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty F. Peppler, his parents George and Lydia Peppler, his brothers Marvin, Nathan, and Dwayne George Peppler; his sister-in-law Verna J. Peppler; his father and mother-in-law Robert H. and Lydia A. Neitzel, brothers-in-law Robert E. and Dennis H. Neitzel and sister-in-law Sandra Neitzel along with his step-son Paul Peppler.
A memorial service for Duane will be held on Thursday January 31, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel United Church of Christ with Rev. Andi Wolf officiating. Visitation will take place at the church beginning at 9 a.m. Military Honors will be held at the church following the service. Inurnment will be at Lake View Memorial Park.
