Edward Jerome Noe

May 23, 1922 — February 8, 2022

Edward Jerome Noe was born to John and Amelia Dreves Noe, Canadian emigrants in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. He joined the Navy to become a Navy pilot in 1942. He served on active duty flying P-51 Mustangs before becoming a Naval Reservist retiring in 1966. In 1944 he married LaVera Worthey, who predeceased him in 2009. They had one daughter, Joann Marie (now Cross).

Ed earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education from what is now UW LaCrosse and a Master’s degree in Education from UW Madison. He was also ABD in Educational Administration from UW Madison.

Ed worked many jobs in his life serving as a Lieutenant in the Navy, a cab driver, a high school Math teacher in three different school districts (Rochester, New York; Brockport, New York; and Addison, Illinois), a textbook editor, a high school principal, a Junior College Biology Professor and a state Crime Lab technician. His favorite jobs, however, were as a computer troubleshooter for Addison Trail High School (the job he retired from) and Emmeline Cook Elementary School where he volunteered for the five years his grandson was in attendance.

Ed’s happiest moments recently included traveling to the United Kingdom to see his grandson William married in 2010, his visits to EAA as a Life Member and his daily trips to Jansen’s restaurant where he became an unofficial member of staff. He was a lifelong member of the Masonic Order.

Ed was predeceased by two older brothers (Harold and Stuart), his parents, his wife and his brother-in-law (Richard Worthey) and sisters-in-law (Shirley Noe and Mary Worthey). He is survived by his daughter Joann (John) Cross, his grandson William (Shoshana Moss) Cross, nephews Timothy and Christopher Noe and nieces Valerie Noe Jones, Linda (Joe Henry) Worthey Cline, Cheryl (Randy) Worthey Duty, Rene (Nathan) Worthey Bennight and Ricki Worthey. He is also survived by a number of great-nieces and great-nephews. Ed was grateful to have been cared for over the last fifteen years by his neighbor Chad Lemieux, and his friends Barbara, Paula and Roxi.

A ZOOM funeral service will take place on February 18, 2022 at 1:00 pm. Ed’s family will be available online from 12:30 pm. Please email joanncrosscpa@gmail.com to receive a link to the service.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church designated for the Blessing Box.

A celebration of what would have been Ed’s 100th birthday will be held at his gravesite in Lake View Memorial Park on Sunday, May 22, 2022. Details will be available later. All are welcome.
