Else Anna Alwine Werner

May 2, 1919 — February 23, 2013

Else Mutter Werner, 93, of Oshkosh passed away Saturday February 23, 2013 at Park View Health Center in Oshkosh. Else was born in Jacobsdorf (Pommern) Germany on May 2, 1919, the daughter of Rudolf and Else Wellnitz Werner. On February 21, 1940 she married Hans Werner in Kalisch, Poland. He preceded her in death on April 9, 2006 after 66 years of marriage. On April 2, 1952, Else, along with her husband and son, Fred, spent ten days on a transport ship, the General C.C. Ballou, with their destination being the United States. It was April 12, 1952 when Else and her family took their first steps on American soil in New York Harbor. In 1957 Else and Hans were so proud to have obtained their American citizenship. Together they would spend over fifty years living on and running a dairy farm in the town of Black Wolf. The Werner farm was a very welcoming gathering place for neighbors, friends, and many Europeans that also immigrated to the United States, leaving Else with many happy and cherished memories. Else played an important part of keeping the family farm running smoothly. Along with keeping up with the household duties, she spent many hours of everyday helping with the farm work. Else was a very devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed playing cards and listening to music, especially a good polka. Her greatest joy was a visit from her family and friends and that special big hug given by her great-grandchildren. Else is survived by her two sons, Fred (JoAnn) Werner and Richard Werner both of Oshkosh; one step-sister, Charlotte Rades of Alsfeld, Germany; nine grandchildren, Douglas Werner of Berlin, Germany, Daniel (Tiffany) Werner of Oshkosh, Darren (Ali) Werner of Grafton, Elizabeth (Steven) Snow, Katherine (Robert) Unger, Alexander Werner. Patricia Werner, Zachary Werner all of Oshkosh, and Victoria (Jonathon) Paul of Fond du Lac; nine great-grandchildren, Amelia and Piper Werner, Mykayla Werner, Natalie, Evalyn, and Charlotte Paul, Samantha and Claire Unger, Isabelle Snow, and two great-grandchildren due in March; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins in Germany; and many dear friends. Along with Elses husband she was preceded in death by her parents; one sister and brother-in-law, Herta and Gnter Kratzke; two step-sisters and brothers-in-law, Ella and Robert Werner and Gertrude and Ewald Brechler; one step-brother, Max Siefke; one step brother-in-law, Fritz Rades; and daughter-in-law, Robin Werner. A funeral service for Else will be held on Friday March 1, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at Grace Ev. Lutheran Church (913 Nebraska St.) with Rev. Jeffrey Duquaine officiating. Elses family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Park View Health Center for their care and compassion given to Else in the last three months of her life. The family also wishes to thank the staff of Lakeshore Manor of Oshkosh for the many memorable outings, activities, and all the Uno games she enjoyed during her year and a half stay and mostly the friendships and great care shown to Else while she lived in her, as Else called it Heavenly Room, with the beautiful view of Lake Winnebago.Der Mensch denkt und Gott lenkt.
