Ethel Buchanan, 93 of Oshkosh, passed away Saturday June 28, 2008 at the Aurora Medical Center. She was born in Oshkosh on March 27, 1915 the daughter of Robert and Augusta Steinert Berndt. She married Robert Buchanan on October 4, 1941 in Oshkosh. He preceded her in death on December 1, 1988. She had attended Peace Lutheran School and graduated from Oshkosh High School.Ethel was a faithful member of First English Lutheran Church and taught Sunday School for many years. She worked in her early years at the Oshkosh Overall Co. (Oshkosh BGosh), but is best known for her many years of work at the offices of doctors R.H. Bitter and R.V. Kuhn, also occasionally helping out at several other doctors offices. She had worked several seasons at Miles Kimball Co. where she hand wrote Christmas cards, which she was very proud of.She is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Randy) Krohn of Oshkosh, three granddaughters, Jamie (Ted Jr.) Hoff of Oshkosh, Jodie (Matt) McCartney of Oshkosh, and Julie Jameson (special friend, JR) of Markesan; four great grandchildren, Conner and Olivia Hoff, and Caden and Brynn McCartney; two sisters-in-law, Betty Lou Berndt and Phyllis Buchanan both of Oshkosh; step-grandchildren, Lori Krohn of Milwaukee and Kathy Hoffmann of West Allis; step great grandchildren, Dustin Krohn, and Joshua and Krysta Hoffmann along with many nieces, nephews and friends.Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert, son-in-law, Larry Jameson, all seven of her brothers and sisters, and several nieces and nephews.Ethel was a very, very special lady who enjoyed conversation, especially entertaining family with tales of yester-year at the family homestead, where she continued to live until her death. She was kind to all, especially those who were alone, bringing them into her circle wherever it may be. She loved to cook, especially soups and enjoyed watching murder mysteries on TV, especially Matlock, doing crossword puzzles, and talking on the phone. She so enjoyed watching the Packers play and belonged to a family Fantasy Football League every season. She enjoyed and looked forward to her Wednesdays at Neighborhood Center. In recent months she even started writing poetry. She will be sadly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.Her memorial service will be on Thursday July 3, 2008 at 1:30 PM at the First English Lutheran Church with Rev. Martin Ruge officiating. Inurnment will be in Peace Lutheran Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church on Thursday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. A memorial has been established.Her family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Aurora VNA Hospice and the doctors and nurses that took such good care of Ethel and showed such kindness to her family.
