Eugene Frank Berger, 86, of Oshkosh died on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Gabriels Villa with his sons at his side. He was born on August 15, 1923 in Oshkosh the son of Rudolph and Margaret Schuessler Berger. He married Patricia Bass on November 23, 1946 in Oshkosh. Patricia preceded him in death on June 11, 2003.Eugene was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish. He was a Postal Clerk until his retirement. He was a WWII Army veteran of the 8th Cavalry, and was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Bronze Star, the Army Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. Eugene enjoyed puzzles, gardening, fishing, baking cookies, and mostly enjoyed spending time with his family.Survivors include sons, Richard (Judy) Berger and Paul (Patricia) Berger both of Oshkosh, Gregory (Kathy) Berger of Appleton, and Norman (Wendy) Berger of Oshkosh; grandchildren, Tammie (John) Rathsack, Todd (Stacy) Berger, Jon (Tracy) Berger, Misty (Todd) Anderson, Paul Jr, Brad, and Michael Berger, Mark and Carrie Berger, Alex, Abby, and Emily Berger; thirteen great grandchildren; one brother, Rudolph (Harriet) Berger of Green Bay; three sisters, Katherine Andresen, Margaret Books, and Ann Marie (Robert) Dehn all of Oshkosh; one sister-in-law, Sharon Berger of Oshkosh and one brother-in-law, Joseph Bass of Oshkosh. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, Daniel Berger; one brother, William Berger and five brothers-in-law, Charles Andresen, Bernard Books, John, Hugo, and George Bass.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Most Blessed Sacrament Parish-St. Marys Site (442 Monroe St) on Friday, February 5, 2010 at 11:00 AM with Fr. James Jugenheimer and Fr. William Van DeKreeke officiating. Family and friends may visit at the church on Friday from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Eugenes family would like to thank the friends he made at Bethel Home, Gabriels Villa, Aurora Hospice, especially Marlene and Dr. Jon Carlson.A memorial has been established
