Gary L Wuest, 78 of Oshkosh, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2022. The last 48 hours of his life he was surrounded by family, friends, story-telling and laughter.
Gary was born June 4, 1943 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, the son of George and Lucile (Futta) Wuest. He graduated from Oshkosh High School, Class of 1961. Throughout his life, Gary formed countless friendships, many of which were life-long from the south side of Oshkosh or from his years of bowling. Gary retired from Oshkosh Truck (Corp) and enjoyed his retirement years completing projects around his home, his kids’ homes and grandkids’ homes. He truly enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow and attended as many of their events as possible. He was the best “Gramps/Boppa” a kid could ever ask for. Family was the most important thing to him and always came first.
Gary married the love of his life, Sherred “Sherri” (Wohlt) on July 18, 1970. Together they built a family based on love and humor. Their eldest son, Scott (Michele) Wuest resides in Oshkosh as well as their daughter, Gina (Jay) Munig. Their youngest son, Gus (Melissa) Wuest resides in Greenville. Gary was blessed with seven grandchildren: Emily (Casey) Hautala, Hannah (Kurt) Walotka, Natalie (fiance Nathan Lovell) Wuest, Grace and Garret Munig, Gary and Marie Wuest and one great-grandchild, Da’myah Hautala.
Gary is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, brother Gregory Wuest, sisters Kay Wuest and Annette “Dolly” Hoffman, many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Robert and Verona Wohlt, and brother-in-law, Charlie Hoffman.
Gary’s family would like to thank his doctors over the years, especially Dr. Robert Weber and Dr. Christopher Rocke, his special angel nurse Heather Klauer, his girls at the dialysis center and the wound clinic. He adored each and every one of you.
If you knew Gary, you loved Gary. End of story.
A celebration of Gary’s life will take place at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church at 1100 E. Murdock Avenue, Oshkosh on Sunday, February 20, 2022. Visitation will take place from 3-5pm with the funeral service to follow at 5:00pm. Gary’s favorite color was red.
