George James Rothenbach

George Rothenbach, 82, Neenah, died Monday, March 12, 2007, at Theda Clark Medical Center. His son Bert and his close friend Gloria Burdick were at his bedside.George was born August 12, 1924, in Oshkosh, son of George and Josephine (Ruth) Rothenbach. After graduating from Oshkosh High School, he served in the Army during World War II in both the European and Asian theaters. He received a Bachelors degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1949, a Masters degree from Colorado State University in 1967, and an Educational Specialists degree from the University of Wisconsin, Stout in 1975. While at Madison, he competed on the Universitys wrestling and weight lifting teams.His professional life included service as a Field Director for the Red Cross in Europe, ownership of the Bootery and Fashion Shop in Craig, Colorado, and a faculty position at Eastern Kentucky University. In 1967 George joined the faculty at Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton as an Instructor in the Data Processing Department. In 1976 he transferred to the Colleges Banking and Financial Services Department, where he served as Department Head until 1988. Retirement allowed George to focus on two of his loves: big band music and ballroom dancing. He corresponded with numerous band leaders and musicians around the country and made many good friends attending dances across the state.George was a great father. He was also a great supporter of young people, and was well known for taking his son and many of the neighborhood kids on fishing and camping trips. This dedication to the nurturance of young people continued into his retirement, when he mentored foreign students attending college in the US.George is survived by his son Bert, daughter-in-law Molly, granddaughter Amelia, and friend, dance partner, and companion Gloria Burdick. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Norbert, Nolan, and Nyle, and sister Elayne.Funeral services will be held on Friday March 16, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-East with Deacon Ray Brandenstein officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside CemeteryA memorial has been established.... The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and other staff members for the outstanding medical care and great kindness George received while at Theda Clark.
