George S Cooper

George S. Cooper, 84, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin died Thursday April 19, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 10, 1928 in New London Wisconsin, the son of Lester and Nellie Cooper. George attended Oshkosh High School and was a veteran of the United States Navy and served from October 1945 through December 1949. He married Darlene Peyerl on October 20, 1951. This past year they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary and renewed vows with Father Jim Jugenheimer presiding over the celebration. George worked as the Procurement Director at Work Adjustment Services in Oshkosh and retired in 1990. In his free time he was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, trapshooting, and fishing. In addition he enjoyed traveling to Florida and Las Vegas, cooking, cheering on the Green Bay Packers and was devoted to his wife and family. Throughout his life, George always had a dog at his side. George always had a positive outlook on life, was friendly to everyone and had a special nickname for family and friends. George was a parishioner of Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Oshkosh. He will be missed by his loving wife, Darlene, two sons, Steven (LeAnn) Cooper of Fredrick, Colorado, James (Michelle) Cooper of Omro, Wisconsin, three daughters, Sue (Michael) Plummer of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Lisa Fry of Hawthorn Woods, Illinois and Beth (Michael) Vetelino of North Stonington, Connecticut, twelve grandchildren Elizabeth Miller, Eric Plummer, Justin and Kristen Fry, Nicole and Sabrina Duey, Eric, Aaron, and Jeremy Vetelino, Cassandra May, Dakota and Garrett Cooper, and two great grandchildren Lisa and Zachary Miller. His parents and a sister Clairene Bedore preceded him in death. A visitation for family and friends for George will be on Sunday, April 22, 2012 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside, 100 Lake Pointe Drive, Oshkosh. A funeral with military honors will be held on Monday April 23, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Most Blessed Sacrament Parish-St. Peter Church, 435 High Avenue, Oshkosh. Friends may also call at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established for the Old Glory Honor Flights.Georges family would like to thank the Algoma Rescue Squad, the Mercy Medical Center Chaplains, the staff at Mercy Medical Center, Affinity Hospice staff, Dr. Al-Nouri and Roxanne for their support and loving care of George.May the road rise to meet you,May the wind be always at your back,May the sun shine warm upon your face,The rains fall soft upon your fields and,Until we meet again,May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
