George William Last

George W. Last, 94, of Oshkosh died Thursday, October 9, 2014, at Bethel Home. He was born May 17, 1920, in Oshkosh the son of Theodore and Leona Ganzer Last. George married JoAnn Ward on January 30, 1953, in Billings, MT and she preceded him in death on December 9, 2011.George was a lifelong member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He graduated from the State Teachers College in Oshkosh in 1942. He was a proud veteran of World War II with the US Army being a member of the 579th Signal Air Warning Battalion. After the service George graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1950 receiving a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and was a Board Certified Professional Engineer. He then started work at Irion & Reinke Architects and became a partner with Reinke, Hansche, & Last until his retirement. George was a life member the American Legion and Elks Club. He enjoyed singing with the Oshkosh Barbershoppers for many years. He and JoAnn belonged to dance clubs and enjoyed playing cards, Packer games, and traveling.George is survived by two daughters, Martha (Paul Cain) Last of Oshkosh and Susan Rae (Henry) Salazar of Menasha; a son, Thomas (Ladan) Last of Fair Oaks, CA; two grandsons, Luke and Matthew Last; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; a son, Donald Last; and two sisters, Rhea Wollangk and Ruth Baier.Funeral services for George will be on Monday, October 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside, Rev. John Hobbins officiating. Visitation will be held Monday at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the service. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Park. Memorials may be directed to Wesley United Methodist Church or Bethel Home.Georges family would like to thank the staff at Bethel Home for the special care and compassion he received during his stay.
