On Wednesday, August 27th, 2014, Gil was welcomed home by his Lord.Gil was born on July 11th, 1926 in Oshkosh, the oldest of Alfred and Annas three children. He attended school in Oshkosh, and throughout his high school career enjoyed several years of boxing before graduating in 1944. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Navy as a Radioman during World War II. He graduated from Valparaiso University in 1951 and later went on to work for the Pennsylvania Railroad and American Safety Razor companies before his long-term employment at Rockwell International, where he was an employee manager until retirement in 1988. Gil was united in marriage to Gertrude Trudy Baker on July 16, 1960 at Martin Luther EV Lutheran Church in Oshkosh, who proceeded him in death last September. Throughout his lifetime, he remained an active member of his church and regularly enjoyed his hobbies of playing horseshoes and dartball, following sports, and reading. Gil was also very fond of travel, and together with Trudy he went on repeated trips to Alaska, the Panama Canal, and various places around the state. Aside from his hobbies, Gils life was brightened by his two grandchildren, Courtney and Joey. The mutual love they shared was unique to them alone, and he blossomed as a grandfather in the selfless care he gave them throughout their childhood and after. Gil was proceeded in death by his wife, Trudy; his parents, Alfred and Anna; and his brother, Kermit Wuethrich. He is survived by his children, Bonny (David) Marek and Stephen Wuethrich, both of Oshkosh; his grandchildren, Courtney and Joe Marek; his brother, Richard Wuethrich of Oshkosh; and his sister-in-laws, Carol Wuethrich of Appleton, Ruth Loew of Beaver Dam, and Vivian Baker of West Bend.A service in memory of Gils life will be held today, August 29th, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Martin Luther EV Lutheran Church, 1526 Algoma St, Oshkosh. Visitation will occur from 10:00-11:00 a.m, and the Reverend Jeffrey Berg will officiate. Entombment will be held at Lakeview Memorial Park. Gils family would to thank the caregivers and staff at Northpoint Medical Center for the attention and care they showed him throughout his stay during the past few months of his life.
