Gilbert R. Labudde, 97 of Oshkosh died at the Bethel Home after a very full life. He was born in Oshkosh on January 27, 1909 the son of Gustav and Alvina Doede Labudde. On August 12, 1933 he married Emma Nan Klitzke in Oshkosh. She preceded him in death on December 16, 1987.Gilbert worked for over fifty years at the Oshkosh Northwestern starting as a newsboy delivering papers, becoming a reporter, then becoming the sports editor for eight years, city editor for thirteen years and finally managing editor until his retirement. He was a member of the Emmanuel United Church of Christ. He enjoyed gardening and was a docent at the EAA museum winning the Henry Kimberly Spirit of Leadership Award on October 21, 2005 for distinguished volunteer leadership in service to the EAA. He had been very active in scouting from Cub Scouts all the way to Scout Master. He was also active in DeMolay having been awarded the Legion of Honor. He was one of the founders of the Oshkosh Philatelic Society and had been active with AFS (American Field Service). He had been a docent at the Grand Opera House since 1989. He had been a Friend of the Oshkosh Convention and Business Bureau. Gilbert served his country in the U.S. Navy serving as a Yeoman aboard the U.S.S. Columbia (CL56) in the South Pacific during World War II.Gilbert is survived by two nieces, Marjorie Sharpe of Rosendale,WI, and Nancy Stone of Ripon, WI, and a nephew, Tim (Doris) Stone of Littleton, NC, and several great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Edward J. Labudde, and by a sister, Leona Stone.His funeral service will be Friday March 24, 2006 at 1:00 PM at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home – Eastside with the Rev. R. David Gaskill officiating. Burial will be in the Lake View Memorial Park. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Memorials may be given to the Aurora VNA Hospice or the Fields of Honor Veterans Museum.
