Gilbert Ruben Bathke

Gilbert R. Gib Bathke, age 84, of Oshkosh passed away on October 1, 2014 at Aurora Medical Center with his family by his side. He was born in Oshkosh on September 22, 1930 to the late Bernard and Mary Bathke. He married Elaine Ruechel on June 19, 1954 in Oshkosh. Gib joined the U.S. Marine Corp on August 14, 1951. He served in the Korean Conflict and received an honorable discharge as Sergeant. After his service he was employed with Deltox Rug Factory. He then obtained a custodial position with the Oshkosh School System until his retirement. He enjoyed spending his time outdoors hunting and camping at his permanent camp site at Pearl Lake. Gib also belonged to the Oshkosh Campers Club. An extra special time in his life was spent at his cottage in Wautoma that Elaine and he shared. His past time included working with wood; making lawn ornaments and signs. He was proud of his great grandchildren and would spoil them whenever he had a chance.He is survived by a daughter, Sandy (Mark) Vonderloh; two grandsons, Mike (Ann) Vonderloh and Jeff (Gena) Vonderloh; four great grandchildren, Austin, Kendra, Sierra, Zoey; and his beloved pet, Rusty. Gib was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Elaine, his son, Tony Bathke, parents, Bernard and Mary; sister, Hazel Buttke; brothers, Bernie and John Bathke.A funeral service for Gilbert will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Homes-Westside, 100 Lake Pointe Dr. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service.In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.Gibs family would like to thank Dr. Hanes and the nursing staff at Aurora Medical Center for their loving care they gave to Gib.
