Gilbert William Hanson

Gilbert W. Gib Hanson 85, of Oshkosh died unexpectedly on Monday, April 16, 2007. He was born on January 13, 1922 in Oshkosh the son of Magnus and Harriet Ertel Hanson. Gib married Betty Shaw on January 13, 1943 in West Palm Beach, FL. Betty preceded him in death on April 7, 1988. Gilbert was a member of St Johns Ev. Lutheran Church, Oshkosh. He worked for the Wisconsin Telephone Co. for over 40 years and was a WWII Army Air Corps veteran. Gib played soft ball as an adult and was a high school basketball player.Survivors include one daughter, Jan (Bill) Skafte of Winneconne; one son, Brian Hanson of Oshkosh; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; parents, and five brothers, Ertle, Norman, Nolan, Robert and Harold Hanson.The funeral service will be Thursday, April 19, 2007 at 1:00 PM at St. Johns Ev. Lutheran Church, 808 N Main St. Oshkosh with the Rev. Joel Olsen officiating. Family and friends may call at the church on Thursday from Noon to the time of service.Gibs family would like to thank the Good Samaritan who stopped to help Gib on Monday. They would also like to thank the fire department emergency personnel and the Aurora Medical Center Emergency staff for the assistance they gave.A memorial has been established to St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, Oshkosh.
