Glenn H. Steinbrecher

September 28, 1931 — May 17, 2022

Glenn H. Steinbrecher, age 90, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on Tuesday,May 17, 2022. He was born in Green Bay on September 28, 1931, to the late Sylvester and Mabel (VandeLeest) Steinbrecher. He was united in marriage to Jean Schnell on September 5, 1953, in Green Bay. 

In addition to helping raise 6 children, Glenn’s working life was mostly in the insurance and financialplanning businesses, first with Prudential and then starting his own company in 1982, Oshkosh Insurance Services. Community service was something that Glenn made an ongoing part of his life. In his desire to help others and help make the world a better place, he ran Stop Smoking Clinics from 1982-1992 and ran three Toward Tomorrow Group Homes for people in transition to independent living. Glenn had a soft spot for people and over the years has done his best to help people in need. He played bridge with a club for 40 years, volunteered at church, and has been an active Rotary member for 35 years! He also was a longtime volunteer at the Oshkosh Police Station and the Winnebago County Sheriff K9 Unit. Glenn enjoyed playing with the grandkids, global traveling, organic gardening, orchid growing, worm composting, mushroom growing, hiking/ski trail maintenance, cooking, wood working, and just enjoying the “country life” at the cottage on 60 acres, where family and friends gathered over the years, providing wonderful memories for all. 

Glenn is survived by his wife, Jean Steinbrecher; children: Deb Madel, Susan Steinbrecher, Brian (Cindy)Steinbrecher, Lauri Boyer; sons-in-law: Darrell Thoma and Ken Severn; grandchildren: Zachary (Aly)Madel, Melissa (John) Peeters, Brad (Courtney) Thoma, Alex Pope, Charles Pope, Sam (Megan)Steinbrecher, Joe Steinbrecher, Eleanor Lu Steinbrecher, Jessica Boyer, Andrew Severn, Tim Severn,Matthew Severn, Sarah (Ross) Fale; including seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews:Leanne (Brian) Wick, Ruthann (Mike) Braasch, Mary (Mike) Neumann, Craig Williams, Steve (Chris)Williams. He was further preceded in death by his daughters: Judith Thoma, Nancy Severn; and sisters:Carol (John) Williams and Jean (Bill) O’Brien. 

A funeral service for Glenn will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Algoma BoulevardUnited Methodist Church, 1174 Algoma Boulevard, Oshkosh. Visitation will take place at the church onWednesday from 11:00 am until the time of service. Entombment will take place immediately followingthe service at Lake View Memorial Park.
