Gordon W. Betts, age 86, Oshkosh passed away January 15, 2010 at Evergreen Retirement Community. He was born February 1, 1923 in Oshkosh the son of the late William M. and Lottie M. Betts.An Air Force Veteran of WW II in charge of maintenance of B-17's and later B-29's, he was employed by Wisconsin Telephone Co. and AT&T for 40 years, 20 of which were spent upgrading long distance phone service throughout Northeast Wisconsin. He and Audrey J. Mortensen were married December 14, 1946 and just celebrated 63 years of marriage. She survives him along with two daughters Kathryn Ann Jameson, Oshkosh and Christine Sue (Paul) Lindauer, Santa Rosa CA; also one sister, Mavis (Donald) Longwirth of Butte des Morts. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Matthew (Sandra) Jameson, Oshkosh; Amy Jameson (Nick) Yackovich, Madison; Rachel A. Hock, Santa Rosa, CA and Caleb S. (Michelle) Hock, Fort Bragg, CA; plus three great-grandchildren Noah, Benjamin and Abigail Jameson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Boyd Betts and a sister, Opal Panske. He was United Methodist by faith and a member of Algoma Boulevard United Methodist Church, Oshkosh.At his request no formal funeral services will be held. A private service will be held for family members at a later time. Cremation has taken place. The cremains will be interred at Ellenwood Cemetery, Oshkosh beside his dearest friends and marital in-laws Elmer and Pearl Mortensen.In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Aurora Visiting Nurse Association for the Hospice and Palliative Care Team or Algoma Boulevard United Methodist Church.The family would like to thank the staff at Evergreen Retirement Community-Creekview Household 1 and the Hospice Care Team of Aurora Visiting Nurses for their excellent care of Gordon and their assistance to the family.
