Greg Allen Olsen

Greg Allen Olsen, 55, of Oshkosh, died on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at his residence. Greg was born on July 25, 1951 the son of Kyrre and Marion Davison Olsen.Gregs first love was Washington Island, where hed often talk about retiring to. Greg grew up in Milwaukee and went to high school in Shorewood. Gregs Bachelor Degree and Masters Degree were awarded to him from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. He was formerly a participant in the Unitarian Church, was active in the Fraternity, part of the 1000 Man March, traveled, golfed and played tennis. He had a very interesting career which revolved around families, disabilities and legal advocacy. Greg was a lecturer and member of the Instructional AcademicStaff as well as a member of the Sociology Department. He was a strong supporter of nontraditional education at UW Oshkosh. For many years he was an active member of the instructional team of the Center for New Learning Bachelor of Liberal Studies degree, a nontraditional degree program. He taught a variety of courses including one he developed on Ethnicity and Demography in Wisconsin. Through his work in the Center for New Learning, he touched the lives of many adult nontraditional students over the years. One student commented that He was a great teacher. I am glad I was able to learn so much from him. Greg was himself a lifelong learner and continued to hone his teaching skills through participation in professional development activities through the Center for New Learning. If you allow yourself this adventure, sociology will take you there and equip you to interpret and act upon todays problems.Greg leaves behind a daughter Angela, who he cherished more than anything and many who loved him deeply, including very close friends and family, sisters, Susan Olsen and Karen (Michael) Angeli and nephews, Kylen and Galen Olsen and Cameron and Bey Angeli. He was preceded in death by his father Kyrre. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at 5:00 p.m. at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home - Eastside. Visitation for family, friends and colleagues will be from 4:00 p.m. until the service time.
