Harry Gross

Harry Gross, 88, of Oshkosh died at Evergreen Retirement Community on Monday March 19, 2007. He was born to Morris and Minnie (Bergon) Gross on October 1, 1918 in Milwaukee. He met Audrey Jean Otto in 1939 and they were united in marriage on January 19, 1941 in Oshkosh. Harry worked at the Diamond Match Company and at Wisconsin Axle. In 1960 he worked for American Motors in Milwaukee and Kenosha in maintenance until his retirement in April of 1984.Harry was a kind, helpful Christian, volunteering his help and caring for people all of his life and especially during his retirement years at the USO in Milwaukee, the Senior Citizens dining service in Oshkosh, the Salvation Army in Oshkosh, where he monitored the stockroom, stocked the shelves and serving tables on many occasions in any task that was requested. He regularly visited shut-ins at Nursing Homes and the American Legion in OshkoshHarry had served his country in the United States Army from January of 1942 to April of 1944 when he was honorably discharged.Harry is survived by his wife of 66 years, Audrey Jean of Oshkosh; three sons, Lawrence (Cindy) Gross of Sheboygan Falls, Steven (Barbara) Gross of Colleyville, TX, and Sidney (Carol) Gross of West Allis; one daughter, Mary Louise Bartels of Oshkosh; one brother, Philip Gross of Syracuse, NY; one sister, Florence Gross of Rockwood, TN; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and a son-in-law.Memorial services for Harry will be held at the Evergreen Retirement Community Chapel (1130 N. Westfield St) on Saturday March 24, 2007 at 11:00 AM with the Revs. Jean Schmidt and Mark Klaisner officiating. By Harrys request there will be no visitation. Interment will be at Lake View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
