Helen M. Niemuth, 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Westbrooke Manor in Oshkosh on Thursday, July 30, 2015.Helen was born July 4, 1926 in the Town of Rushford, Wisconsin, the only child of Mearle and Ella (Relien) Morrow. She graduated from Omro High School in 1944 and married Marvin P. Niemuth on July 21, 1950 in Dubuque, IA. Helen was a member of Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church in Omro. After many years living in Oshkosh Helen and Marv decided to move to her family farmstead near Omro. Helen and Marv were members of Timber Topper Square Dance Club, Valley Carousals Dance Club and the Legion on the Lake Club where they formed several long-lasting friendships. They traveled with a dance club to California and Hawaii to the National Conventions and spent many happy weekend get-aways with many of the members. They spent time visiting friends and family in Arkansas and Florida. Marv passed away in October 2002. Helen enjoyed living in the country and remained on the family farm for several more years. She was active in Triad- Winnebago County, AARP, Red Hatters Berlin Chapter, Home-makers and organized a Merry-Widows luncheon Club. She was an avid golfer playing on a Wednesday morning league at Wedgewood Country Club in Omro until her illness forced her to retire her clubs.Helen relocated back to Oshkosh in 2007. She loved learning new things and telling stories about what times were like during her growing-up years. In later years Helen became a dedicated reader of history, biographies and autobiographies keeping a log of all she read and enjoyed.Helen will be sadly missed by her dear friends: Peg Paull, Bev Gade, Clarence and Mary Lee, Helen Wittenberg , friends from her Homemakers group and special acquaintance Steve Herman, former leader of Triad, Oshkosh.Helen is survived by a son - Wayne (Paula) Niemuth, Oshkosh; two daughters - Sandra (David) Sanders of Land O Lakes, WI, and Linda (Jon) Whitpan of Oshkosh; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is further survived by a sister-in-law Martha Johnson of Oshkosh, and brother-in-law Ben (Patti) Niemuth, Ripon,WI.Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Marvin, close-cousin Ruby Thurk and dear friends Angela Binder and Fern Claussen.Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday, August 3, 2015, at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Homes-Westside location, with Rev. Michael Lilienthal officiating. Helen will be laid to rest next to her husband Marv and her parents at the Omro Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. Monday until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.A special thank you to her son-in-law Jon for all the loving care and attention he gave to Mother who thought of him as a son. The family would like to thank Generations Home Care and Hospice for their care and comfort to Mother. And a sincere thank you to all the girls at Westbrooke Manor. Sandy and Linda will truly miss their Mother and best friend.
