Henry Gilbertson

Henry F Gilbertson, Jr. (Hank), age 88 was ordered to duty in heaven on Wednesday, May 27, 2009. He was the son of the late Henry F. and Martha K. Gilbertson. His wife, Gini, of 45 years and sister Jane G. Blumke predeceased him. He was born January 27, 1921 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he is survived by his sister Ruth G. Oaks, brother-in-law Walter P. Blumke, daughters Lynda G. Andrews, Lori G. Strong (Chris), Cindy Huber (John), sons Mike Carver (Susie) and Scott Carver, his grandchildren, Kirk, Joanne, Emma, Andrea, Joshua, Erich, Johnny, George, and four great-grandchildren. Hank was an instructor training pilots at Wright Field Dayton, Ohio. He reported to duty and served in WWII as a Hump pilot flying in the Burma/India/China Theater. He received the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross several times. Hank, a former EAA officer, learned to fly from Steve Whitman of Oshkosh. He began his airline career, first with Capital Airlines that later merged with United Airlines. After 30 years as a Captain with United he retired with over 27,000 hours. Hank was a 32nd Degree Mason, Angel Pilot with the Shriners, Commander with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and involved in many service organizations. He was a Deacon and Elder with the First Congregational Church in Las Vegas, NV where he celebrated life for 38 years until 2008 when he moved to Puyallup, WA. A Memorial service will be held in the chapel at Lakeview Memorial Park, Oshkosh Saturday, June 6th at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, Donations Department, 3160 Geneva Street, Los Angeles, CA. 90020-1191
