Hugh W. Carver, 87 of Oshkosh, died Wednesday September 22, 2010 at Bella Vista Senior Living Community. He was born in Oshkosh on October 13, 1922 son of Watson and Bernice Brink Carver. He attended Longfellow Elementary School and graduated from Oshkosh High School. Hugh served in the U.S. Army during World War II, landing in Normandy, France, July 1944. His father Watson was also in the army and served in France during World War I. After discharge with the rank of sergeant, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and graduated with a BS degree in Dairy Chemistry. He was employed by the Carver Dairy. Later, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and obtained his teaching certification. He taught science at Webster Stanley Middle School and Oshkosh North High School until his retirement. Hugh was a member of the Oshkosh City Council, The Elks Club, The American Legion, and Alliance Francaise. He was an avid hunter and a member of Ducks Unlimited, life member of the Otter Street Fishing Club, Pheasants Forever, and a proud member of the NRA.He enjoyed traveling and made many trips to France, where he became reacquainted with old friends and loved ones from time spent there during the war. Hugh was very interested in genealogy, and was a certified member of the Mayflower Society, tracing his ancestry to John and Priscilla Alden.He is survived by his brother, the Honorable William H. [Rita] Carver, Circuit Judge Retired, nieces Catherine and Caroline Carver (Oshkosh), step-daughter Karla Thomas (Michigan), step-son Terry Krause (Texas), and very special friends the Mahmoud family.There will be private family services held with military honors at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be forwarded to Fields of Honor Military Veterans Museum.
