James C. Dutcher

James Clifford Dutcher, age 61, passed away November 17, 2009 in Oshkosh, WI, after battling metastatic melanoma. He was born on December 5, 1947 in Berlin, WI, son of Clifford and Evelyn Dutcher. He graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1966, and graduated with an Associate Degree in Automotive Technology from Fox Valley Technical Institute in 1969. He served as a sergeant in the US Army from 1969 to 1971, and as a drill sergeant in the US Army Reserves until 1988. The Bronze Star was awarded to him for heroism while serving as a patrol leader with Company C, First Battalion, 46th Infantry, March 26, 1971. After serving, he was employed as an engineering technician at Mercury Marine for 38 years. On June 8, 1974, James was happily married to Katherine C. Jerow at Trinity Lutheran Church, Oshkosh, WI.James was dedicated to serving the community of Oshkosh. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving as Director for several years, driving the church bus, and ushering, of which he was most proud. He volunteered as a docent at the E.A.A. for many years, and was frequently requested to give guided tours because of his knowledge and his ability to engage the visitors. He served as a volunteer fireman for the Utica Volunteer Fire Dept. for 25 years, former member of the Mid-Morning Kiwanis Club, former cub scout leader of pack 171, was a regular blood donor, and delivered Meals-On-Wheels for several years. James was a loving husband, father and friend. He intensely loved his children and grandchild, sharing his knowledge and tool collection whenever the need arose. He was an avid photographer, his favorite subject was capturing candid shots of family. He cherished his life, his 35 years of marriage, his faith, the support of family and friends, the chance to raise a beautiful family, and the happiness it gave him to be able to give so much to his children. He enriched the lives of everyone he met and will be missed. He is survived by his wife Kathy, and children Steven T. Dutcher and Angelica Marie Alger, and granddaughter Ayla Izabella Carriveau, his mother Evelyn Dutcher, brothers Tom (and Carol) Dutcher, David (and Bonnie) Dutcher, his uncle Carlton (and Lois) Schmidt, and many other extended family members. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday November 20, 2009 at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church with Rev. Marvin Ahlborn officiating. Family and friends may call at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside on Thursday from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM; and at the church on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the UW Carbone Cancer Center.
