James A. Kile, 88, of Oshkosh, died at Mercy Medical Center on Monday, June 25, 2007. He was born on January 5, 1919 in Washburn, WI the son of Henry and Harriet McCall Kile. James graduated from Washburn High School in 1936. He attended Oshkosh State teachers College on a football scholarship. His education was interrupted by WWII when he enlisted in the Navy in August of 1942. Jim served on a destroyer in the South Pacific for 38 months earning eleven battle stars. After his discharge he opened a restaurant in Washburn, WI.On October 4, 1946 he married Grace Milligan. They moved to Oshkosh in 1948 where they operated the Campus Caf? for 12 years. In 1954 the College yearbook, The Quiver, was dedicated to him. It was the first dedication to someone other than faculty.Jim returned to Oshkosh State College and graduated in 1961 with a teaching degree. He taught sixth grade in Menasha WI for 20 years, retiring in 1981. He enjoyed watching the Packers, and the Titans. He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening, reading and dancing.Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Grace; four daughters, Wanda (Don) Polster, Dawn (Kim) Kile, Darlene (Ashley) Stadel, and Denise (Keith) Davis, a sister, Naomi Holman of Washburn, WI, eleven grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. Preceding Jim in death were his parents, a sister, three brothers, and a grandson.His funeral will be on Thursday June 28, 2007 at Noon at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside with the Rev. Barry Yarbro officiating. Inurnment will be in Woodland Cemetery in Washburn WI. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the service on Thursday. His lord said unto him, Well done good and faithful servant; thou has been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord. Matthew 25:23
