With her husband and daughters by her side singing her favorite hymns, their arms wrapped around her and hands in hers, Jean Merry, age 71, went peacefully Saturday morning to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.Born Jean Ellen Eckstein on November 19, 1943. in Winchester, Wisconsin, she was preceded in death by her parents Lewis H. C. Eckstein and Patricia Jane (Ray) Eckstein. Jean has five siblings: Judy (Steve) Albee, Ev (Carol) Eckstein, Jan (Ed) Fritz, Lewy Eckstein and Curt (Sandy) Eckstein.Jean married Art Merry on September 21, 1963. Art and Jean enjoyed 51 years of love-rich marriage and were blessed with three daughters. Elizabeth (Richard) Turnage, Victoria and Anne (Jason) Rosenau.Jean had a large extended family whom she also loved very much. She had five grandchildren: Tyler (Hannah), Jacob (Heidi), Caleb, Zachariah, Alexi and a grand-dog. Charlotte. Tyler and Hannah gave Jean four great-grandchildren: William, Brennan, Annelise, and Jude, with one more in her mothers womb.Her devotion to family was apparent in all the time she spent being a stay-at-home mom, volunteering at school libraries, camping, fishing, playing gin rummy, Yahtzee and Scrabble and teaching her daughters to be ladies. Jean volunteered many years as part of the Ladies Auxiliary at Park View Health Center. She and Art (who met at the Winnebago County Fair) started a 4-H club, Winnebago Warriors that lasted for over thirty years. There was a no-call rule during every Green Bay Packer football game. Jean enjoyed years of involvement in her various churches, teaching and acting as co-superintendent of Sunday school and co-teaching confirmation. She had a great love of angels, collecting and displaying them all over the house, dedicating one to each child, grandchild and great-grandchild.The family wishes to thank the staff at Mercy Medical Center for their loving care during her battle with pneumonia and the complications that arose.If you'd like to send a tribute to honor her memory, a memorial has been set up in her name at the Oshkosh Humane Society.The family will be having a private memorial service, but friends are welcome to an open house to celebrate her life at the Merry residence on Thursday, April 16.4-6 PM.
