Jeff Gordon Evans

December 11, 1934 — March 27, 2010

Jeff G. Evans, 75, a resident of Oshkosh, was born to eternal life on Saturday, March 27, 2010. He died unexpectedly while on vacation in Oklahoma. He was born on December 11, 1934 in Temple, TX, to Blanche Dean Evans and Gordon Evans. Jeff was a graduate of Baylor University in 1957, with a communications degree, and a Master of Divinity degree in 1961 from Texas Christian University (TCU). While at TCU, he met and married the love of his life, Damaris Dee White Evans. During these seminary years Jeff served the country parish churches of Poolville, Bluff Dale, Walnut Springs, and Acton/Cresson. After graduation, he served as Minister of Education for Polytechnic Methodist Church. When Jeff came to Wisconsin, in 1967, he served as a counselor with the Job Corps in Tomah. He also served as pastor in Wilton, WI and Kendall, WI. He came to Oshkosh in 1968, and devoted many years at Winnebago Mental Health Institution as a counselor and social worker. He started the first pastoral program at the WRC and the new prison in Oshkosh. After he retired, he enjoyed being a Pastor of Caring Ministries at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Ripon and Covenant United Methodist Church in Fond du Lac. He then retired again, and was called to serve Memorial Baptist Church in Fond du Lac. Each of his ministries enabled him to meet people that he learned from and loved. Jeff loved clowning and magic, and performed both, entertaining hundreds of children and adults throughout his life. He also enjoyed collecting knives, clown figures, and pictures of his grandchildren. He was passionate about his faith, his family, and his political party (Democratic!). He deeply enjoyed services to others, while he had his health, and a bright spot in his life was his border collie, Princess. Jeff was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church, and held two terms as an Elder. He also served faithfully with the Food Pantry ministry. He sang with the Kings Men Group as they ministered to nursing homes, prisons, and at many church services. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 52 years; his daughter Dyan Barbeau and her husband Tim; his daughter Allison Simon and her husband Kelly; his son Jeff Evans III and his wife Angie; and his grandchildren Emily, Hannah, and Abigail Barbeau, Nicholas Simon, and Mekenna and Montanna Evans. He is further survived by his sister Carlene King and her husband Walter; his brother David Evans and his wife Anna; and his nephews Eric and Dr. Todd Fisher, and David and James Evans. Visitation will be between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday April 6, 2010 at Plymouth Congregational Church, 1325 Georgia St., Oshkosh, with funeral services following at 4:00 p.m. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Jeff was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who will live forever in our hearts and memories
