Jeffrey W. Bolding

November 17, 1960 — March 3, 2021

Jeffrey Warren Bolding, 60, of Laguna Hills, Calif., formerly of Oshkosh, died March 3.

He was born Nov. 17, 1960, in Lisbon, Portugal, the first child of Nathan Shrout Bolding and Marjorie Ann (Stange) Bolding, while his father was stationed there as an enlisted member of the U.S. Air Force.

He attended schools in Rome, New York; Fort Clayton, Canal Zone, Panama; Montgomery, Ala.; and graduated from Oshkosh West High School in 1979. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration−accounting and finance, from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 1983.

Jeff was a confident, outgoing, generous and business-minded man who loved his family, relatives and friends. He traveled often to see his father in Louisiana, help his mother maintain her home and garden in Oshkosh, visit his sister’s family in South Dakota and hang out with his younger brother in Houston, Texas. He hosted them many times at his Laguna Hills house, eager to see them experience California’s beaches, Yosemite National Park and other wonders.

Any visit from Jeff usually involved his help with a major project of some kind, including painting his sister’s house. He took special care of his father while he was being treated for lung cancer, making sure Dad received all possible assistance at the Shreveport, La., hospital and at his nearby home in Doyline. Jeff helped his mother through health crises, too.

As a boy, Jeff enjoyed visiting his maternal grandfather’s and aunt’s farms in Sheboygan County on vacations from school and after the family moved to Wisconsin. When his older cousin, John Jens, started his own dairy farm in Glenbeulah, Jeff drove from Oshkosh to help with the milking.

He raced motocross as a teenager in the Oshkosh area, riding a Yamaha. He was especially fond of muscle cars, the Chevelle SS in particular, and owned a yellow-green Chevelle Malibu. He rode and worked on snowmobiles. The family one-car garage and basement were his workshops, and the driveway basketball pole doubled as a place to hoist an engine block.

Blond, blue-eyed and physically active, Jeff was destined to be a Californian. Shortly after graduation he moved to the southern part of that state, finally buying a home in Laguna Hills, which he partially rented out to many individuals who became his friends. After starting his career in accounting, he transitioned to programming Lawson business accounting software, operating JBC Software Training for more than 15 years. He provided many refurbished IBM Thinkpad computers to family members and recently learned Bitcoin programming.

Jeff was a member of Pacific Hills Calvary Chapel, Laguna Woods, and traveled with parishioners to Mexico on charity missions. The Bolding family thanks members there who befriended him.

He is survived by his mother, Oshkosh, Wis., brother David H. Bolding, Houston, Tex.; sister Julie C. Bolding, Sioux Falls, S.D.; nephew Leland N. Brokaw and brother-in-law Chet L. Brokaw, Pierre, S.D.; his Bolding cousins; his Aunt Lorraine Richardson and her children in the Tacoma, Wash., area; his Aunt Lucille Jens and her children in the Plymouth, Wis., and eastern Wisconsin areas; Oshkosh-area friends, including Larry Berger; his former California roommates; and his beloved parrot, Reebok.

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 13 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Oshkosh.
