Jerry Ray Hawkins

"What a day that will be when my JESUS I shall see, when I look upon HIS face, the ONE who saved me by HIS grace....". That day came for Jerry Ray Hawkins on Sunday, May 26, 2013, after complications initiated in a car accident.Jerry was born in Bell, CA on April 27, 1927, the son of Ralph and Doris (Jensen) Hawkins. In 1934 he and his mother moved to Kenosha, WI. After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy Reserve-Philippines. In 1948, he married Lois 'Pat' Rover and they had three children: Doug, Steve and Sherri. He attended Kenosha College of Commerce becoming an accountant and establishing his own accounting business for over thirty years. He is a past member of the Lions Club, Wisconsin Association of Accountants, EAA and life member of the Oshkosh Elks #292.His love of aviation was evident throughout his life. He flew solo, a J-3 Cub when he was 16 years old and was later instrumental in establishing an airport in Kenosha. On August 18, 1984, he married Susan (Krumenauer) Lautenschlager in Oshkosh. They were blessed to enjoy 28 years together taking trips, gardening, and growing in the Lord. He was always so grateful for the love and support of his church and family.In 1985 he helped build the Oshkosh RC Flyers field where he enjoyed flying his 15+ radio controlled home built airplanes. He was the president and treasurer of the Oshkosh RC Flyers and treasurer at St. John's Lutheran Church. In 2004 he and Susan became members of Plymouth Congregational Church where he served as chairman of the teller committee. He loved and owned many cars through the years taking great pride in his 1973 MG-B. In 2011 he took up bird carving, becoming treasurer of MID-WIS CHIPPERS and recently winning ribbons. On July 27, 2011 he was honored to go on an Old Glory Honor Flight to Washington D.C.Jerry was a kind and gentle man, thinking of others first. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved his sweets!He is survived by his wife, Susan; his children Steven (Erica) Hawkins, Kenosha; Sherri Ventura, Missouri; Michael (Tari) Lautenschlager, Oshkosh; Daniel (Tracie) Lautenschlager, Oshkosh; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; his favorite mother-in-law, Ruth Krumenauer; brother-in-law, Peter Krumenauer (Sue); sisters-in-law Connie Zonick (Chuck); Linda Cotton (Ben) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Larsen; father, Ralph Hawkins; first wife, Pat and his son, Douglas.A wonderful man has come and gone from this earth. His memory will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved him. A celebration of Jerry's life will be held on Friday, May 31 at Plymouth Congregational Church, 1325 Georgia St., Oshkosh. Visitation from 11:00 am -1:00pm. Service to follow with a traditional military honor guard ceremony.The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Theda Clark Medical Center for their compassionate care.In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
