Obituary for John Edward Phillips

John E. Phillips, 89, of Oshkosh went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 with his family by his side. John was born on February 3, 1929, in Darboy, a son of Julius and Madelyn (Thymer) Phillips. He married Virginia Rucks on June 9, 1956 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Oshkosh.
John was a veteran of the United States Army and was a Master Electrician and owned Solar Electric. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 577, as well as a member of Living Water Lutheran Church.
John was known for his infectious smile and cheerful disposition. He spent his spare time building lighthouses, woodworking, gardening, and painting-being especially fond of capturing birds, lighthouses, and landscapes.
He will be deeply missed by his wife Virginia; children: Perry Phillips, Sue (John) Williams, and John (Lori) Phillips; Grandchildren: Kimberly (fiancé Mike), Alex (Beth), Ariel, Alex (Erica), and Amber (fiancé Tim), and Great Granddaughter, Aubriella. He is also survived by brother Ralph (Mary) Phillips and sister-in-law Dorothy (the late Len) Phillips and by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, four sisters, and many brothers- and sisters-in-law.
Private services will be held.
John’s family would like to thank the staff of the Waterford and Heartland Hospice, especially Dani and Christine, and Dr. Alzoubi and staff.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Alzheimer’s Association and Heartland Hospice.
