Josephine J Strey

November 20, 1930 — December 29, 2022

Josephine J. Strey,92, passed away peacefully on December 29th,2022 at Country Villa. She was born on November 20th,1930 to the late Joseph and Louise (Chivale) Swalley in Chicago, Illinois. She attended Ashland Highschool for three and a half years and graduated from Oshkosh Highschool in 1951. On December 29th, 1956, she married the late Wayne Strey at First English Lutheran Church, where she was also a member.

Jo went on to graduate from Mercy School of Nursing in 1951 and worked as a registered nurse. She worked at Winnebago Mental Health Institute, Mercy Medical center, and Dr. E.J Zmolek’s office. She was an active volunteer for Red Cross, American Cancer Society (Reach to Recovery), and the Oshkosh Senior Center for over 20 years. Jo’s family was her pride and joy. From her children to her great grandchildren, she loved each and everyone the same. She loved going on bus trips with her club and the highschool group.

She is survived by her two sons: Daniel (Julie) Strey and James (Connie) Strey. Grandchildren; Jake (Tessa) Strey, Nicole (Daniel) Parker, Courtney (Josiah) Manteufel, Jack Strey, Ashley (Chip) Lewis, Kyle (Dawn) Radke, Brittany (Andrew) Griep; Sister: Sr. Mary Lou; brother-in-law Al Jaeger; 13 great grandchildren and many special nieces, nephews and countless special friends

Along with her husband and parents, Jo is preceded in death by her sisters; Anne (Ernie) Currier, Sr. Mary Carla, and Louise Davis. Sisters-in-law Jane Mcdonald, Phyllis (Alfred) Jaeger, Loretta Strey, Dorothy Strey, Marcella Boldt and Virgina Strey. Brothers-in-law; August E. Strey, Ralph J. Strey, John D. ‘’Jack’’ Strey, Gerald McDonald, and Ervin Boldt; and 2 infant brothers and 2 infant sisters.

A service for Josephine will be held on January 7th at 11 o’clock with visitation starting at 9 o’clock at 100 Lake Pointe Drive, Oshkosh, WI 54904.
